Tech Lead Java Backend Engineer

We are looking for a Tech Lead Java Backend Engineer to join our client’s fast-growing e-commerce company in the automotive industry. The team is focused on scaling and modernizing a high-traffic e-commerce platform and building reliable backend systems that support complex business-critical workflows.

This role is a strong fit for a hands-on technical leader who can go beyond implementing predefined requirements. You will work directly with technical and business stakeholders, analyze and challenge business requirements, architect solutions, make technical decisions, and proactively suggest improvements.

The engineering team is working on backend services, APIs, third-party integrations, database and performance optimization, caching, event-driven systems, and the gradual adoption of microservices architecture. The platform supports large-scale e-commerce operations, including real-time inventory, logistics, payments, shipping, and other business-critical workflows.

Working hours 1:00 PM — 9:00 PM CET/CEST (to ensure overlap with US-based team)

Requirements: 

• 8+ years of professional Java development experience
• Experience with system architecture, solution design, and technical decision-making
• Ability to critically evaluate business requirements and propose technical solutions
• Strong experience with Spring Framework
• Experience with Hibernate or other ORM frameworks
• Strong experience with REST APIs
• Strong knowledge of MySQL, PostgreSQL, and relational databases
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining APIs
• Experience integrating third-party services and external platforms
• Strong understanding of backend security best practices
• Experience with performance tuning and query optimization
• Experience with Redis or other caching technologies
• Experience with Kafka or other event-driven technologies
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban)
• Client-facing experience and direct stakeholder communication
• Upper-Intermediate/Advanced English

Nice to have: 

• Experience with high-volume or event-driven systems
• Experience with saga patterns or distributed workflows
• Experience with Cassandra, DynamoDB, ScyllaDB, or other NoSQL databases
• Experience with SOAP, GraphQL, or gRPC
• Experience with high-traffic e-commerce platforms

• Design and develop scalable, secure, and efficient backend systems
• Architect technical solutions and contribute to key technical decisions
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions

• Proactively identify technical risks and propose improvements
• Collaborate directly with technical and business stakeholders
• Mentor and support other engineers

• Take ownership of solutions from design through implementation and production
• Collaborate with product, engineering, QA, and business teams
• Align technical solutions with business objectives
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation
• Support the ongoing modernization of the ecommerce platform and microservices adoption
